Programmes & Activities – British Somaliland Association (BSA)
At BSA, our programmes are grounded in service, solidarity, and self-empowerment. We exist to help British Somalilanders returning from the UK reintegrate, contribute meaningfully, and thrive within Somaliland society. Our activities are designed to address practical needs, social challenges, and developmental gaps through community-driven solutions.

Youth Work Experience Programme
Unlocking Career Paths for UK-Somalilanders
We help young British Somalilanders living in the UK who wish to work in Somaliland gain access to hands-on internships, mentorship, and real-world placements across key sectors.
This flagship programme:
– Connects youth to employers in Somaliland (public/private sectors)
– Builds professional experience in culturally relevant environments
– Strengthens identity and cross-cultural understanding
– Operates through a structured application and vetting process led by the UK-based BSA office
Whether you’re a student seeking your first opportunity or a graduate ready to give back—this programme helps you bridge ambition with action.
02
Legal Awareness & Rights Forums
Know Your Rights. Protect Your Future.
Laws in Somaliland differ significantly from those in the UK. Many returnees find themselves uninformed about legal, civil, or religious obligations. Our legal awareness initiative addresses this through:
– Regular community forums with legal experts
– Awareness campaigns on key issues (e.g., land ownership, dual citizenship, women’s rights, inheritance laws)
– Timely updates on legal reforms, residency procedures, and regulatory changes
These sessions are practical, accessible, and rooted in both Islamic and Somaliland legal frameworks.
03
Community Support Services
No One Left Behind
We prioritize care for the most vulnerable members of our community—those who may not have the resources or networks to access support.
Our assistance focuses on:
– Children lacking educational access or family support
– Elderly returnees needing health or welfare services
– Persons with disabilities or mental health challenges
– Strengthening or establishing local care structures in collaboration with Somaliland-based NGOs and government agencies
Our goal is to ensure dignity, inclusion, and a safety net for all.
04
Skills Sharing & Diaspora Volunteering
Knowledge That Gives Back
British Somalilanders possess a wealth of expertise across fields such as education, healthcare, business, technology, and development. Through BSA, we facilitate meaningful ways for experts to serve:
– Voluntary or paid placements in institutions needing skills support
– Institutional attachments and short-term consulting
– Professional mentorship for young Somalilanders
– Programmes designed to ensure mutual benefit, sustainability, and community impact
Whether you’re visiting short-term or relocating permanently, there’s a place for your knowledge to matter.
05
Cultural, Religious & Social Activities
Celebrating Identity. Promoting Unity.
We believe in community-building through shared experiences. Our cultural and religious engagement includes:
– Sports tournaments and social gatherings
– Community Iftars, Eid celebrations, and Islamic education events
Intergenerational storytelling, art exhibitions, and talent showcases
– National day commemorations, travel exchanges, and diaspora heritage days
These activities strengthen our collective identity while offering healing, joy, and togetherness in an ever-changing world.
06
Media, Advocacy & Public Education
Voices That Shape Policy and Perception
We use digital tools and traditional media to:
– Advocate for the rights of returnees and the diaspora
– Dispel misconceptions and counter extremism
– Share stories of success, resilience, and reintegration
– Broadcast educational content and policy briefings across platforms
Through Facebook, radio, forums, and publications, we create a space where British Somalilanders are seen, heard, and valued.
